Tokens

"The Tokens as a series represents tickets similar to what one might might buy for any trip or event. A bus or train token, for example. The title, colors, patterns, textures, materials and attached items on each one represent where that particular ticket would take the viewer, in a journey of the imagination. Just as a paper ticket might have a silhouette of the Eiffel Tower on it. It would be understood the ticket would likely be to Paris or at least France.

The difference here is that the viewer wouldn't have such a familiar symbolic reference to work with. One would have to engage more imagination to interpret the various elements to decide where a particular Token leads. There are no wrong answers. Whatever place the viewer imagines is the correct destination for them. A single Token can have an unlimited number of explanations. An unlimited number of stories and destinations. The only limit is the imagination of the viewer.

The things I was thinking of while creating each piece could be a real place such as a city on Earth. Or it could be a city on another planet. Or in another dimension. It could be a wilderness. Or an extinct life form. Or an island of talking animals. It could be something that isn't so easy to imagine, such as the center of a single cell of an alien child's mind while she is dreaming. Or the exact center spot between binary stars. Or it could be something less tangible like the color that exists beyond violet. Or the nature of impulse.

The best way to enjoy each Token, to take a mind vacation, is to ask and answer as many questions as possible. Some examples:

Would I like to live in this place?

Could I live in this place?

Does anything live in this place?

If so, is it human?

If not human, what is it?

What does this place look like?

What does this place sound like?

Is it a safe place or is it dangerous?

Is there a language?

Is there a government?

What kind?

What is the weather like?

Is there weather?

What is the most unusual scent?

Is there a culture?

What is it like?

Are there traditions?

What are they?

How would I describe the most unusual thing I see?

How would I describe the most unusual thing I feel?

And so on just like that..."
