Text in Hungarian:

VI. Keseredes (67. Magyar Etude)
Szantottam, szantottam het tuzes sarkannyal,
hej, vegig bevetettem hullo konnyeimmel.
Szaz nyilo rozsarol as erdon almodtam,
hej, tobbet nem aludtam, felig ebren voltam.
Hajnalban folkeltem, kakukszot szamoltam,
hej, visznek eskuvore kedves galambommal.

Translation:

VI. Bitter-Sweet (67th Hungarian Etude)
I plowed, I plowed with seven fiery dragons,
Heigh-ho, I sowed nothing but lilies of the valley.
I plowed, I plowed with a beautiful diamond plow,
Heigh-ho, everywhere I sowed my tears.
In the forest, I dreamed of a hundred blossoming roses,
Heigh-ho, I slept no longer, was half awake,
In the early morning I got up, counted the cuckoo calls,
Heigh-ho, they are taking me to be wed to my sweetheart.

Artist's Statement:

This is the second piece inspired by 'Bitter-Sweet' except
that I did focus more on the poetry. In my mind I saw a
story about a young village woman leaving behind her
childhood world of fantastical creatures and events
to enter the adult world and responsibilities of an
arranged marriage. I saw her saying goodbye to a circle
of dragons who used their tails and fire to form a nest where
a single cuckoo egg had been placed. The abstracted
representation of cuckoo feathers hang below which
can also be seen as the pendulum of a cuckoo clock -
time running out. The material used in the back evokes
the shiny decor and veils of her wedding day. She gives
up the glamour of the Other Folk for a final bit of
glitter. The egg is the potential of her future children.
Who will hatch? Will they see dragons?
